Description and General Information:
This candelabra-type primrose is native to western Sichuan and central and northern Yunnan, where is grows in wet meadows and streamsides at 2500-3100 m elevation. Pleants produce a rosette of evergreen, smooth leaves up to 10 cm long. Flowers are produced in 2-6 umbels on a scape that reaches 20-45 cm tall. The flowers are purplish-crimson to rose-purple, with a yellow eye. Blooming time stretches from May to July.
Blooming Season:
May in more southern or warm areas to as late as August in cooler regions.
Cultivation:
This primrose may be grown in part shade to full sun, as long as they stay evenly moist. It will not tolerate any drought. The soil should be organic-rich and slightly acidic. It can tolerate very wet soil and may even grow in running water as long as the leaves are not inundated.
Propagation:
Large clumps may be divided in early spring. Seeds germination is quite simple. Surface sow the seeds and germinate them at 20 C.
