I visited my sister near San Diego last week and enjoyed seeing some wildflowers in bloom. A rain two weeks earlier got things going.
Phacelia parryi is strikingly dark purple. I don't try to name the other phacelias.
Just returned from a thoroughly enjoyable week-long vacation. I wholeheartedly endorse Iceland as a place to empty your bank account (everything is expensive) and see beautiful waterfalls, geysers, natural rock gardens, puffins, etc.
If there is ever a next time we will:
Opt for GPS in the rental car. We couldn't rely on getting a cellular signal. Fortunately, my husband had printed out maps so we didn't get lost, although we weren't always sure of that.
I will be attending a conference in Seattle next month, August 6-12. I plan to tack on some time on either end to play tourist. I'm arriving by air, and do not intend to rent a vehicle.
Are there any private gardens I may visit? Perhaps someone reading this will welcome a visitor. ;-)
I will also look up public gardens, some of which I have visited in the past, but advice from locals is always the best option.
Hello
I'm Philippe.
This summer, I and a friend will come to Colorado, in Lyons to visit a friend.
Of course, as it is the first time we're going to the USA, we plan to hike ( daily hikes) two or three times to see vegetation and plants.
Any suggestions regarding places to go there please?
It will be in august so I think we will have to hike "high" ( in altitude I mean) to see flowers.
We plan to visit rock garden too but we already which one :) ( of course!)
Many thanks for your help.

Hello, NARGS members! I am a new member and am looking forward to meeting everybody in Steamboat. Last week I had the pleasure of visiting the crevice garden designed and installed by Kenton Seth at the APEX center in Arvada, Colorado. At the time of its inception, it was the largest crevice garden in North America, at more than 1,000 sq ft, involving placement of some 60 tons of stone. Here are a few photos I took, and my companion, Bob Nold, will post others.
I'll be traveling to Jeju Island, Korea on business in May. It looks like an area that has interesting flora and fauna. On the off chance that anyone on this forum has been there before, I'd appreciate any advice on gardens to visit and nature areas to explore. Unfortunately I'll only have 3 days to sight see plus maybe an evening or two.
Thanks in advance.
Erica
Just for fun (as I haven't even identified most of the plants), here are some photos from a trip to southern Utah, between April 29 and May 5, 2012.
Wonderful desert scenery in the Price Canyon area, with Astragalus/Oxytropis and Lomatium(?) spp:
I plan to visit friends who have recently moved to Billings, Montana. I would like to rent a car and do some plant exploration in the summer. Where is the best place to go? When is the best time to go?

I am not sure why the Lost Prairie name is given to this area, but I will say that it can be easy to get lost when my head is down and the prairie grasses tower over my head! The terrain is categorized as a bluff prairie, although the hills are not large at all. Rather, it refers to the make up of (small) limestone ridges that frequent the otherwise lowland (mostly) prairie. It is surprising how diverse the ecologies are, and there are species that coexist among each other here that thrive in very different environments elsewhere. I've only explored a small portion o
