Watching Chelsea Flower Show coverage from US/Canada

Submitted by Jeddeloh on Fri, 05/23/2014 - 23:21

Possibly the biggest floral hoopla on earth, the Chelsea Flower Show, is happening now in Great Britain and for some unexplained reason the BBC won't let anyone outside of the UK watch their coverage.  And to make sure of it they won't let you access their iPlayer from outside the UK.  Turns out their is a workaround known as VPN (virtual private network).  A VPN basically fools the iPlayer into thinking you and your computer are parked in Merry Olde England watching the coverage.  Essentially it routes you through a British based IP address.

Peonies 2014

Submitted by Hoy on Sun, 04/27/2014 - 15:08

The first peony opened its flowers today. It is a seedling and the flowers isn't the best part of the plant. The leaves are early and with a reddish hue they do a better display in spring than the flowers.

Troughs

Submitted by Hoy on Sat, 04/05/2014 - 02:45

I didn't find a suitable thread so I decided to open one!

Lacking proper habitats for rock plants on my woodland I decided to construct a place and here is the result. Not quite finished yet but ready to put the first plants in place.

But what should I call it? A trough (oversized one), a crevice garden or just a rock garden? It measures about 1.8 x 2 m (6 x 7 ft).

Posting copied section from Notebook?

Submitted by Lori S. on Sun, 03/02/2014 - 10:56

Hi,

One of our forumists is trying to copy a section from Notebook on a PC and paste it into a post but is having problems doing this.  Does anyone have any advice on how to make this work?

(I can copy sections from Excel spreadsheets and Notebook and post them into a dialog box using the clipboard function but that's using a Mac... seems it is different on a PC?)

Thanks for any help.

Lori

What do you see on your garden walks 2014?

Submitted by Hoy on Sun, 02/16/2014 - 09:48

Seems it is a dull season, not much activity at this forum at the moment! Are you covered by snow, blown away by wind or damaged by wildfires?

The season has started here although it is not much to boast about. February has been very mild so far (not a single degree of frost till now!) but the rain has poured down in stead. Not like in GB but more than enough. When the rain stops for a moment it is still not enough light for the flowers to open and barely enough to take pictures!

Snowdrops, snowflakes and crocuses are all up and showing colour but don't open properly!

Making Hypertufa into stone

Submitted by mtribby on Thu, 01/16/2014 - 09:12

Hi, I found an older thread about using hypertufa as stones and wanted to revive the topic. There is tons of information about making hypertufa troughs, but not as much about making hypertufa into stones. I'm interested in making hypertufa boulders that would mimic a natural piece of tufa that you would be able to plant into. Any suggestions on how to go about this or resources that you've used?

Thanks!
