These Physochlaina orientalis were started from seed in 2013, and are blooming now (March 28/15) in zone 3, Calgary, AB, aided and abetted by a prolonged stretch of warm conditions:

That's a real charmer, something to add to my keep-an-eye-open-for-this list.  


It's an interesting plant - extremely hardy, blooming very early and then going dormant later in the season.  It's an "easy, warm germinator".  In other words, the seeds don't need stratification or any other more complicated treatment to induce germination.  Something to watch for in the NARGS seed exchange list...
