Primula bulleyana is one of several 'candelabra' type primroses. It is native to SW Sichuan, NW Yunnan and neighboring Myanmar, where it grows in wet, montane meadows and streamsides at elevations of 2600-3200 m. Plants produce multiple rosettes of elliptical 30 cm leaves, each producing a solitary stem to 60 cm, with 5-7 whorls of 2 cm diameter flowers. Blossoms are orange-yellow, opening from reddish buds.
This primrose blooms June to July in both the wild and in cultivation.

Plant this primrose in a site that remains evenly moist all season. The soil should be humus-rich and slightly acidic. It can even grow along the margins of water features. In the north, place it in full sun but in the south, it should have afternoon shade. It is hardy in zones 5-8.

Large clumps may be dug and divided after blooming. It is also easily raised from seed sown at 20 C.
