Geraniaceae

Submitted by Fermi on Tue, 02/16/2016 - 00:08

There doesn't seem to be a Thread for the geranium clan so here's to the start of one!

This is Monsonia emarginata which is a short lived perennial in our garden but withstands the harst conditions and goes through summer with very little water (maybe it wouldn't be so short lived it we watered it a bit more!?)

Species Iris

Submitted by Longma on Wed, 04/09/2014 - 06:11

Iris tuberosa

Previously called Hermodactylus tuberosa, this species has been returned to the genus Iris.

It grows well for us in the garden, producing flowers every year. Usually the flower stems are broken by our windy conditions, but this year, so far so good.

Nuttall's Rayless Goldenrod, Bigelowia nuttallii

Submitted by Leonard Lehman on Sat, 02/15/2014 - 12:36

Our ALLEGHANY CHAPTER is in the process of aiding our local Western PA Botanic Garden and Arboretum in developing shale barrens exhibit! We are germinating and raising several species of plants that are typical of this unique environment! One of the species we obtained seed of is Nuttall's Rayless Goldenrod, Bigelonia nuttalli! The Mt Cuba Center for Piedmont plants lists it as a choice native alpine but I can find little information on it other than the brief comments from Mt Cuba! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Rosulate Violas?

Submitted by Tingley on Thu, 01/09/2014 - 08:26

Have any of you had experience growing rosulate viola species from seed? I noticed several species listed on the chileflora.com website (Viola cotyledon, V. fluehmannii {semi-rosulate?}, V. litoralis, V. rosulata, V. taltalensis, V. sp. #1551?, and possibly V. vulcanica, though following the details link takes you to a listing for V. congesta.)
