Bill's article on how to make stucco planters and troughs was great. I am always looking for more ways to make planters and troughs. When working alone, I envision prepping several planters or troughs, and holding these until there are several ready to go. Then, in stage two, coating with the first compound, and then holding until there is a batch ready to coat with the final hypertufa material.
My question is: how quickly do you need to move from stage one, wrapping the foam with mesh, to stage two, coating the mesh, and then from stage two to stage three, applying the hypertufa layer?
Bill--what are the workable intervals between stages?

Hi Kathleen, Most of your time is going to be spent building your core and then wrapping the core with fiberglass mesh. It doesn't take very long to apply the the surface bonding cement and the hypertufa. The time interval between building the core and wrapping it can be months. Just keep the core out of the sun. The time interval between wrapping the core and applying the cement layers can be months. Keep it out of the sun and don't let it get dusty. The spray adhesive will hold onto dust. I recommend a short time interval of about 15 minutes between applying the surface bonding cement and the hypertufa. You should get better bonding between the two layers if they cure together.
