"Townsendia montana"

I selected Townsendia montana from the 2019 seed exchange list. Early this year (2020) the plants that grew from this seed bloomed. They did not look in the least bit like T. montana to me, more like an Erigeron species/hybrid. I did not try to key it out but did look at photos of Erigeron species online and nothing seemed to match exactly. Does anyone have any idea what this pla nt is?

That is not the one that I have, or at least it does not look like that to me. Thanks for the suggestion. I gave up trying to post the picture because it just would not work.

Yes seed morphology is an indication of the particular genera a seed might belong to. I received a packet of seed of Townsendia montana from another source and it has the same general appearance that other members of this genus possess. As I recall, the seed I got looked like Erigeron. There are several points where a mix-up in identification could occur so who knows. I have been in personal contact with another member of nargs and this person ordered T. montana from the current seed exchange and reported to me that Erigeron was received. I also ordered T. montana from the current exchange and it does not look at all like the packet of seed I got from an independent source. The conclusion is that someone is labeling their donated seed incorrectly.

not uncommon for some seed in exchanges to be improperly ID'd. I generally look at the donor list to get an idea of what seed may be properly ID
