Unknown Canadian weed

This question popped up on a Norwegian site. Somebody has bought a property in Toronto. This weed(?) is everywhere:

Looks like a shrub of some sort.... ??  I mainly just wanted to say that there are no "Canadian" weeds, only introduced European ones!    Big Grin


Yes, a shrub or a tree: I think they are runners from a kind of Populus or something like that.

And you are right about the weeds! I have no Canadian ones in my garden, just European ones! (The worst one is Circaea lutetiana)

A young Rhamnus?? Around Toronto you might get the native Rhamnus alnifolia (in wetlands) or either of two non-natives, Rhamnus cathartica and Frangula alnus (formerly Rhamnus frangula).
