Not 'alpine' in any sense of the word, but these images may (hopefully) banish someone's winter woes? Some image files from a brief visit to the island of Mallorca in October 2010 featuring a visit to an excellent cactus/botanical garden, etc.

Sun, 12/26/2010 - 11:05pmInteresting, Cliff! I didn't know they had a botanical garden there - have never been to Mallorca myself but hordes of Norwegians swarm there to escape the Norwegian winter. Maybe I have to join them to take a look at the plants!

Lovely photos, Cliff. It's very cheering to see colour and warmth somewhere at this time of year!

Wonderful photos!! ;D
Love the the Opuntias in fruit. I like the color contrast between the pads and brightly colored fruit. It is always a joy seeing them swell and deepen in color as fall gets underway.
The towering stalks of the Agaves are dramtic indeed! Too bad they expend all their reserves to reproduce.

Mon, 01/10/2011 - 11:10amCliff, when you tire of plants you can live as a famous post card designer!
However many of the plants you show are not native to Mallorca but foreign. However do I spot a tiny rock samphire among the cacti and agaves?
