Cyclamen graecum is a tuberous species native to open, rocky, limestone rocks of southern Greece, Crete, west and south Turkiye and Cyprus. It occurs from sea-level to 800 m. This is a fall-blooming species, blooming from September to November. Each tuber produces a multitude of solitary pink or less commonly, white flowers. The blooms usually appear before the leaves emerge. The foliage is heart-shaped and variously patterned in tones of green, grey and/or cream.

In the wild, from late September to late November. In cultivation, it generally blooms at the same time of year as in the wild.

In most of North America, this species is best grown in pot culture. Like all Cyclamen, this species has a distinct growing and dormant season. It is perhaps more distinct in this species than others. When the leaves start to wither in late spring, place them in as much sun and heat as possible and with-hold all water. A cold-frame is ideal for this. Exposure to sun and heat will stimulate maximum flowering. When new leaves and/or flower buds start to appear in August or September, watering may commence, but wait until the soil surface is quite dry between waterings. Fertilize weakly through the fall months. This species is unusual in producing thickened roots along with the tuber. For that reason, it requires a deep pot to accommodate these deep thick roots. Grow them in sunny window or greenhouse through the winter, watering once every week or 10 days. When the leaves start to wither, start the cycle again. Outside, they are best in zones 7-9 placed in a sheltered site where water can be controlled. Plant them 15-20 cm deep. They can tolerate frosts for a short period of time. Overall, they are easier to maintain in pots.

Germination by seed is reasonably easy. Seeds are best sown in the fall, as soon as they ripen. Soak the seeds for three days, changing the water daily. Sow about 10-25 mm deep. They germinate best at 16 C, but may take 2 months or longer. It usually takes 3-4 years for seeds to reach blooming size.
