Returning member now in Austin Texas

Submitted by David Guillet on Wed, 01/07/2015 - 11:01
Hello Folks, I am a born again NARGS member having rejoined after giving up my membership a couple of years ago on retiring and moving to Austin Texas. When I retired I sold my summer place in Shenandoah Virginia where I had gardened and been an active member of NARGS for some15 years or so. I didn't keep up my membership because it never occurred to me that I would be able to rock garden in hot, dry, and droughty central Texas notorious for thin clayey soils over limestone. But the house we eventually bought was very close to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

Hello from the Bosom of Appalachia (West Virginia)

I have just joined NARGS, at the suggestion of my friend Peter George.

Short bio:  I am born and raised in West Virginia.  I love fly fishing, and catfishing (it is indeed a verb in West Virginia), small game hunting, boating.  I also collect mushroom specimens and play disc golf (they go hand-in-hand, actually).  I have an economics degree and JD from WVU.

I love WVU football as much as Peter George loves KU basketball.

Hello everyone,

I joined NARGS about a year ago and have attended a few meetings of the Delaware Valley Chapter.

I recently returned from three months in the UK and France, where I volunteered at RBG Edinburgh and Lautaret Alpine Botanical Garden in the French alps. It was an amazing adventure, both to experience large rock and alpine collections and the culture of the countries, as this was my first visit to Europe! I kept a blog while I was traveling: http://plantsinhighplaces.blogspot.com/

Hello from Southwestern Nova Scotia

Hello everyone, I recently joined NARGS, and thought I should introduce myself. My partner and I live on 45 acres of old farmstead in southwestern Nova Scotia. Since we moved here from Vancouver BC in late 2009, we have been gradually building gardens and a small business. Currently we are members of the Arisaema Enthusiasts Group, and the Society for Pacific Coast Native Irises. I am also an avid orchid enthusiast, and was happy to discover two of Nova Scotia's native orchids growing happily on our property.

My parents came to the northeast in 1970. Essex, New York, at that time pretty ramshackle, stopped them on the way to find the American Dream on the coast of Maine. Before that I'd lived in Lincoln Nebraska for a time and before that, Boulder Colorado. I was born in Ann-Arbor, Michigan. As an eight year old, I was immediatly impressed by the natural surroundings in Essex and spent alot of my youth observing aquatic life in the shallow bay there. Fishing became a passion.
