Trond, the number of cabins managed by your trekking organization is absolutely amazing!Yes, there are similar organizations and efforts here, but on a much smaller scale.  The Alpine Club maintains various alpine huts in the mountain parks here:  http://www.alpineclubofcanada.ca/facility/index.htmlThe hostelling association also provides rustic accomodation in the parks (down in the lowlands).
