Aquilegia discolor

by Iza Goroff

Aquilegia discolor is a small alpine columbine, native to the Pyrenees Mountains of Spain and France. It is a reliable bloomer with its showy blue and cream flowers. It grows to a height of 6 - 10 " (15 - 25 cm). It is hardy to at least -30 degrees F.

Most alpine columbines grow best in a soil which has approximately equal parts of course sand, compost or peat moss, and topsoil. Most come from alkaline regions, but few are fussy about PH. Mulch with gravel

Aquilegia discolor is one of many columbines which are valuable for the rock garden. All colors are represented in the genus.
