NARGS Web Site: What You Can Do

Your Society needs your help - NOW! The following jobs need to be filled. Some require a modest amount of time; others a more extended commitment. Please read through and see what you are best suited for, then VOLUNTEER!! Don't just think about it. Do it!

Rock Gardening Topics

Don't hide your gardening expertise under a bushel basket! We need people to write articles on alpine and rock gardening subjects to promote our Society. Castillejas your bag? Have you built a moraine? Germinated alpine toughies in a new way? Even if you're not a writer, we can provide the technical assistance to make you one; you provide the know-how.

Rock Gardening Sites of Interest

We need a net surfer to keep us up-to-date on what's growing in the Internet garden... to dig up new sites and give us one or two-line reviews on where to go and how to get there.

National Meetings

Three times a year we need someone to revise the pages devoted to the three national meetings. The sponsoring chapters provide the text and graphics via electronic media. This job is to refashion it into web pages. After one day's training, this job will take one day per meeting.

Sources for Plants and Seeds

We need someone to index a comprehensive list of what nurseries and seed sources are on line.

Reviewing the NARGS Web Site

New material requires assessment and evaluation for content, for style, and for adaptability to various web browsers. Not a glamorous position, but vital to the promotion of rock gardening.

NARGS Quarterly

The Quarterly is a treasure trove. What is your favorite topic. Dive into the old issues and pull together a compendium of the writings. Tasks involved require some data entry, getting permissions, finding illustrations, and converting to a web page. We'll supply whatever you cannot do.

Illustrations

A big component of the web site is illustration. If you have photos in digitized format, you could send us a list of what you have. Scanning photos and slides is also a much needed capability. And if you have software for cropping and resizing digitized images, you could help NARGS there, too.

Technical Services

Yes, we need your help if you already know how to create web pages. Yes, we also need you if you are willing to learn this skill.

Book Reviews

The goal is to gather book reviews from NARGS Newsletters and the Quarterly for a web page devoted to books of interest to rock gardeners.

Your Chapter

Tell us about members' gardens that are open-to-view. Introduce us to interesting nature sites in your area. Show us where they are and what we'll find. Share choice articles from your Chapter newsletters with us.

Your Garden

Coming all the way home, can you put together a virtual garden tour? Here, everything is always at the peak of bloom and plants live for eternity. When you show us your garden, you promote rock gardening around the world.

When you are ready to go to bat for rock gardening, step up and email the Internet Committee.
