NARGS Meeting Stipend PolicyThe NARGS currently gives $300. for a meeting stipend to encourage local members to attend either a winter study weekend or an Annual meeting. This is meant as an incentive to attend, but is a onetime offer. The requirements are that the applicant is a National member prior to his application and is in good standing with their local chapter, and has never previously attended a National conference. Participation in hosting a conference does not count as attending a meeting. The applicant goes through the Chapter Chair who will request funds from the current NARGS President. The funds on approval will go to the Chapter Treasurer. It is suggested the Chair requires some service of the applicant in return for the National funding. Currently, (2007) there are thirteen (13) stipends, one per chapter per year. Three (3) are reserved for those outside the U.S. and Canadian confines and those not affiliated with a local chapter. These people apply directly to the NARGS President. |
NARGS Student Membership PolicyTo encourage National student membership, our organization gives a student discount. Currently, (2007) the student membership is $15. The term "student" is taken in the widest form of interpretation, including high school, college, and foreign student. All that is required is that the person shows his student ID card to the Chapter Chair or Officer of his local chapter. The local chapter officer is responsible for authorizing the person as a student, and communicates this fact to the Executive Secretary of NARGS. In turn, the secretary will issue the yearly membership. This procedure needs to be followed each successive year while the person is a student. In the case of foreign students and unaffiliated chapter applicants they must apply with a letter to the current President of NARGS. For those people who know of a student of Botany or Horticulture, it is suggested they encourage the student to apply for this generous student membership. |
NARGS Gift Certificate PolicyNARGS has had a long standing gift certificate policy. This allows individuals the possibility to give a National membership to other interested gardeners. However, they are not free, but are the cost of the annual dues. In order to maintain control of them, it is necessary they be purchased from the Executive Secretary. When all the usual information, (name, address, etc.) has been recorded with him, he will send out the gift certificate. And then the new member can be informed of this gift. In special cases, such as gift exchanges with other gardening clubs, where the cost is wavered, the gift must be authorized by an official agent of the National Society. It is hoped, with the advent of the electronic media, this gift policy will have greater recognition and use. |
