| Andrea Ray-Chandler | It's humble, but it's fun. Of course, my Rock Garden is too small [isn't everyone's?]. Buried power lines forced me to build up in a berm of compost and native limestone. These conditions give great drainage to the "buns" of small plants. Looking for rare alpines? You won't find many -- our Midwestern climate can range from minus-20* to 103*, with spring floods and late summer droughts. It's "Darwinian gardening" at its best! "If it'll grow here, it'll grow anywhere." Also open for viewing are a colorful array of culinary Herbs, intensively-grown vegetables, Shade plants, a Cottage garden of old-fashioned favorites, a front Xeriscape [Kansas-style], Butterfly garden, Fruits and Berries, and the curious Green-Flower garden. |
